WLACNF will have to fight at Sectionals

Winnebago Lutheran Academy’s Co-op bowling team looks with anticipation toward the upcoming Sectional tournament on February 14, 2009, at King Pin Bowl and Alehouse in West Bend.

WLACNF, finishing second in the North Division, feels confident in their abilities as a team. Captain Leolani Kaikana confidently stated, “I guess we’re amazing at what we do [and] we give it our all most of the time. [I'm] kind of confident in my team but not as much as in myself and you” I myself have mixed feelings and more or less am hoping that this weekend is better than last year.

The team will be fighting highly favored Kewaskum and Plymouth-New Holstein Co-op for the Sectionals Championship. It would be a historical first for either three teams because it has never happened at any of their schools. Courtney Meyer, a senior at Kewaskum, commenting on what their advantage would be next weekend, said, “[It’s] the drive to do something that has never been done in our school before.” They have already written some history by taking the title of South Division Conference Champions.

As for Plymouth-New Holstein Co-op, after earning the title of North Division Conference Champions they are really working well together. Samantha Rieder, a junior at New Holstein, states, “Sectionals are crunch time to see how well you work as a team and how much practice pays off in the long run.” They finished 15-1.

WLACNF finished the season with a loss, finishing 14-4. The team, coached by Timothy Helbig and Mark Kremer, is composed of Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Laconia High School, and North Fond Du Lac. There are three seniors this year— Leolani Kaikana, and Crystal Kremer, both from Laconia, and Lauren Eaton of WLA. They are anticipating going to state as they did two years ago in their 2006 season.
